The Fernweh Opera is an animated work in virtual reality that features a great opera singer, Asteria. You are the only member of the audience in this theater, in the center of the galaxy, surrounded by stars. During the experience, you learn that Asteria died light-years ago and that this her last show. Produced by Daniel Ernst and performed by Swiss singer Annina Gieré, this project subtly transcribes the embarrassment you experience when you first lock eyes with a performer on stage. During this short and intimate moment, the distance between the member of the audience and the singer disappears completely. The Fernweh Opera evokes this distance between a star and a human being, a performer and the audience, reality and virtual reality, memory and the present.
