In 1981, Wolfgang Petersen delivered a claustrophobic story about a German submarine crew in WWII with Das Boot, which opened the doors of Hollywood for him. Eighteen years later, here comes the sequel, in the form of a series this time, but just as breathtaking.

A homonym of the famous German movie Das Boot (1981), directed by Wolfgang Peterson, this series is not a remake but a sequel: It begins nine months after the end of the movie and goes beyond the closed world of the submarine. Inspired by the books of German author Lothar-Günther Buchheim, who served in a submarine during the WWII and gathered his memoirs in this fictional work published in 1973.
