Screening followed by a discussion with Valeria Golino (Creator and Director) and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi (Actress).

Italy, early 20th century: Modesta enters a convent. Soon, the balance of the place is upset by the arrival of this troubling young woman, and her quest for emancipation begins.
The series is being screened in two parts. More dtails about Part 2 (Ep. 1-3) here.

Valeria Golino, best known for her roles in Rain Man and Portrait of a Girl on Fire, adapts in L'Arte della gioia Goliarda Sapienza's 1967-1976 eponymous novel. The series features Modesta, a young woman from a Sicilian peasant family who was abused as a child, when she entered a convent. There, she discovers a world totally different from the one she had known until then, and quickly forges a strong bond with the Mother Superior, towards whom she feels a deep desire. It's not long, however, before the nuns begin to feel the strain.
