After a night of celebrations, Fatmagul is raped by four drunken men. To make matters worse, she is forced to cancel her engagement and marry one of her tormentors. This dramatic chronicle has conquered Turkey and beyond.

Under its obvious soap-opera appearances, with all the melodramatic twists and turns they imply, this Turkish series is highly political. It denounces the patriarchal society of its own country, which readily transforms the heroine victim into an object of scandal, but also the class imbalances and the room the former leave for impunity and corruption.
