Naples, early 80s. Aldo and Vanda both love each other and tear each other apart. Thirty years later, they are still a couple. For better, for worse. Italian cinema at its best. A tender and bitter chronicle that caused a sensation when it opened the Venice Mostra.
Daniele Luchetti was an assistant and actor for Nanni Moretti, who would later produce his first film. The Ties (Lacci) is adapted from a novel by the famous Domenico Starnone (who is also said to be the author of the books by Elena Ferrante). Here, cruelty characterizes the story of a couple caught in a whirlwind of resentment. Ties still unite them, even without love. A polyphonic fresco that opened the Venice Mostra to much acclaim.
