Saint Laurent produces Gaspar Noé for an evocation of witchcraft, like some Dreyer under LSD. With Lux Æterna, an ecstatic and crazy medium-length film, the author of Irréversible provides Charlotte Gainsbourg and Béatrice Dalle with a cult film worthy of their inflammatory filmographies.

This film was commissioned by brilliant Saint Laurent artistic director Anthony Vaccarello, inspired by Benjamin Christensen’s Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages and Carl T. Dreyer’s Day of Wrath (Dies irae). It was shot over five days and improvised (“Have as much fun as you can!”) with fantastic, impeccable witches. Split screen, flicker and stroboscopy test the power of images on the viewer. An essay on epileptic cinema!
