Innovative Strategies for Digital Museology

Designed in collaboration with Virtual Switzerland, the Innovative Strategies for Digital Museology program aims to foster exchanges between the field of new technologies, creative industries, academia and museum institutions in order to meet the specific needs of the latter in terms of digital innovation. Based on the different digital strategies of a selection of Swiss museums, the idea is to discuss the issues related to their implementation and to offer potential collaborations to overcome them. The event takes place over a day of alternating keynotes, museum presentations and curated matchmaking sessions.

Sarah Kenderine, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne - EPFL
Professor Sarah Kenderdine researches at the forefront of interactive and immersive experiences for galleries, libraries, archives and museums. In widely exhibited installation works, she has amalgamated cultural heritage with new media art practice, especially in the realms of interactive cinema, augmented reality and embodied narrative. She is considered a pioneer in the field digital heritage, digital museology, digital humanities and data visualisation. In 2017, Sarah was appointed Professor of Digital Museology at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland where she has built the Laboratory for Experimental Museology (eM+), exploring the convergence of aesthetic practice, visual analytics and cultural data. She is also director and lead curator of EPFL’s new art/science initiative ArtLab.
Scott Gillam, Canadian Museum for Human Rights
Currently the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) lead for digital experience design & storytelling with a focus on emerging technology; software development, websites, enterprise content management, mobile, AR, VR, and in-gallery digital installations. Scott’s primary focus is online and cross-media development outputs, including interface design, human-computer interaction, and blended experience environments. Facilitating the use of rich media, cinematography, interactivity, for non-linear story-telling.
Pascal Hufschmid, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum
Pascal Hufschmid is Director of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum. An art historian specialised in photography, he believes that art and museums help us understand today’s world. He draws on his international experience in the museum sector, the art market and international organisations to develop large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with public and private partners. To date, he has been active in more than 40 countries. He was selected amongst the Digital Shapers of 2020: the 100 people advancing Switzerland on its journey to become a leading global digital hub of innovation. He was also identified as one of the 15 leaders under the age of 40 who make up Geneva as the world capital of diplomacy and humanitarian affairs. He is a regular speaker on innovation, business development and leadership.
