Yves Tanguy and Salvador Dali shared a taste for organic forms, morphosis and surrealism. Jing Yan pays tribute to the master by offering a virtual trip based on five of his paintings. A silent and magical journey into the painter’s subconscious.
With the interactive work Reincarnation, Jing Yan immerses the audience in a world brimming with pseudo-natural creatures and a set inspired by five paintings by surrealist painter Yves Tanguy (1900-1955). The virtual environment becomes a mixture of organic forms and morphing movements that interact with the user and modify the appearance of the stage in an attempt to expand on surrealism. Perception, fantasy, subconscious and empathy for other creations, organic or abstract, are the raw materials for this young Chinese artist who produced Reincarnation during her MA in Media Art and Technology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (US).
